LEGO Classes

Here is a list of classes I teach:

Toddlers: We work on number skills, literacy skills, social skills, we use our imaginations as fly off to visit various landmarks. We work with simple machines and begin to learn how to use a mouse as well. Sometimes classes are themed with books or holidays as well. The class is an hour long and we meet once a week

Ages 4-6: In this class we work on the same content as above, but the pace is a bit faster and is more age appropriate. We also begin programming using LEGO WeDo. By this time students should have a good understanding of the Duplo simple machines so we begin working with the LEGO technic pieces. I also try to keep it fun and incorporate various centre activities (Animal Bingo, STEM Cards, and a new one I'm excited to try LEGOnary). Some classes are themed to literature, where we use the StoryStarter box to make literary connections using LEGO.

WeDo: Students in this class are ready to build small LEGO WeDo robots. We go through the simple machines and block programming functions. In the class we do go over the 12 models provided by LEGO, but my goal is inquiry based learning using problem based scenarios. An example of that can be found at Dr. E's Challenges.

NXT: Students learn how to build autonomous NXT robots.

Jr. FIRST LEGO League & FIRST LEGO League: These a competitive teams for children ages 6-16. More information on both events can be found here: http://www.firstlegoleague.org/
